This natural, untreated emerald, weighing 0.64 ct, was cut from a rough crystal weighing 2.44 ct. Its color is not entirely uniform: in some places, the stone displays an intense, vibrant emerald green, while other areas appear softer, lighter, and more textured.

Inside, there are clearly visible growth features typical of emeralds. They give the stone an irregular, multi-layered structure and make its natural formation immediately visible. It is precisely these varying internal areas that give the emerald a very unique and vibrant appearance.

Particularly appealing are the areas where the crystal appears beautifully transparent and brilliant in places. There, the green color opens up distinctly and begins to glow vividly when moved. Other areas appear more compact and strongly structured, creating a varied interplay of color, transparency, and depth.

The cushion cut complements this character well. Its softly rounded shape gives the stone a harmonious outer silhouette and provides a serene frame for its distinctly more irregular natural interior. This ensures that both the more intense green areas and the growth structures remain clearly visible.

Emerald is the intensely green to blue-green gemstone variety of the mineral beryl. Its characteristic color is primarily due to chromium and/or vanadium, while iron can also influence the hue. Emeralds with a rich, balanced green color, good transparency, and a vibrant internal color effect are particularly prized.

n so-called chromium and vanadium emeralds, the difference lies primarily in the trace elements responsible for the green color. Chromium is the classic color-giving element in many traditional emeralds, while in other deposits, vanadium can play a significant or even dominant role in color formation. Both can produce very high-quality emeralds. A definitive distinction cannot be made based solely on the appearance of the color; it requires gemmological or spectroscopic analysis. Therefore, what determines the quality is not whether chromium or vanadium predominates, but how beautifully the color, saturation, transparency, and play of light of the individual stone interact.

Natural growth features and inclusions are particularly characteristic of emeralds and are often perceived as part of their individual “jardins.” At the same time, transparency and clarity significantly influence their value.
