This natural, untreated sphene, weighing 2.32 ct, was carved from a 13.64 ct rough crystal. It originated from the same original crystal as a 1.42 ct pear-cut sister stone. As the larger of the two stones, it showcases the crystal’s warm play of color and vibrant play of light in a particularly striking way.

Its warm golden-yellow hue is accented by subtle brownish undertones, giving the gemstone a distinctive, elegant, and remarkably vibrant appearance. Depending on how the light hits it, the sphene displays a fascinating interplay of golden yellow, warm brown, and orange and reddish reflections. Especially in direct sunlight, the multicolored fire characteristic of this type of gemstone comes to life.

Inside the crystal, several small, bubble-like natural inclusions are visible. They attest to the natural formation of the sphene and give it a unique structure without significantly impairing its intense play of light. Its striking brilliance and vibrant play of color remain clearly intact.

The superbly executed oval cut combines harmonious proportions with precise faceting. The incoming light is broken down into numerous intense colored reflections, effectively highlighting the sphene’s extraordinary dispersion. Why is the yield so low?
When cutting a gemstone, the focus is not on achieving the highest possible final weight, but on achieving the best possible combination of color, clarity, brilliance, and proportions. A large portion of the original crystal is intentionally removed to bring out the gemstone’s natural beauty to the fullest.

The sphene originates from southern Africa. The rough stone was sourced for us directly from the source through our partners, inspected by us, and then expertly cut.
