This exquisite natural and untreated iolite, weighing 0.53 ct, was cut from the same 7.55 ct rough crystal. Its larger sister stone weighs 2.09 ct; both have been cut into an elegant pear shape and display the characteristic violet-blue hues of their shared source crystal.

This iolite is eye-clean and beautifully transparent. Its high clarity gives the stone an open, light appearance and allows light to pass through the crystal almost unimpeded. This brings out its deep violet-blue color with exceptional purity and clarity.

When moved, light lilac-colored reflections add subtle accents to the richer base color. It is precisely this high transparency that makes this play of light appear so clear and gives the small stone a surprising sense of optical depth and vibrancy.

The superbly executed pear cut combines a softly rounded base with a delicately tapering tip. The harmonious shape complements its transparent appearance particularly well, allowing color and light to play across the entire surface of the stone.

In a direct comparison of the two sister stones, this smaller iolite possesses a particularly delicate and clear character. While the 2.09-ct stone impresses with its size and pronounced depth of color, the 0.53-ct stone stands out above all for its eye-clean transparency and the light, elegant effect of its violet-blue hue.

Together, the two pear-cut stones tell the story of a single 7.55-ct rough crystal in two different sizes. With this smaller sister stone, clarity, transparency, and the delicate lilac-colored light reflections take center stage.

The Iolite originates from southern Africa. The rough stone was sourced for us directly from the source through our partners, inspected by us, and then expertly cut.

(*)To the best of our knowledge and according to information from our local partners, the gemstone is untreated.

For an additional fee, we’d be happy to arrange for a certificate from an independent gemological institute to be issued for this gemstone.

Images may vary depending on monitor settings. The videos of the stone were recorded without filters or color correction.

The true beauty of a gemstone is only revealed when you hold it in your hand. With every slight movement, the angle of the light, the reflections, and the play of colors change, giving each stone its own unique vibrancy.

Interesting Facts About Iolite

Iolite is the blue to violet-blue gemstone variety of the mineral cordierite. Its color spectrum ranges from light gray-blue through clear blue-violet to deep, intense violet-blue tones. It is characterized by its pronounced pleochroism: depending on the viewing angle, iolite can display different colors, including blue, violet, gray-blue, or slightly yellowish-gray hues. A precise cut is therefore particularly important to bring out the most beautiful color tone to its fullest potential.

Natural inclusions are characteristic features of a natural gemstone. They can provide clues about its natural origin and help distinguish it from synthetic or imitation materials. At the same time, clarity - along with color, cut, and carat weight - is one of the key factors that determine a gemstone’s quality and value.

Transparent iolites with a rich, uniform violet-blue color, high clarity, and vibrant brilliance are particularly prized. High-quality, larger specimens are relatively rare and attract particular attention from collectors and enthusiasts of unusual colored gemstones. The quality and value of an iolite depend primarily on its color, transparency, clarity, cut, and carat weight. However, future performance cannot be predicted and is always determined by quality, rarity, and demand.
