A single rough crystal weighing 16.47 ct was transformed into two exceptional cushion-cut aquamarines - including this particularly beautiful, natural, and untreated gemstone weighing 1.87 ct. Careful cutting planning and precise craftsmanship impressively highlight the crystal’s natural characteristics.
This aquamarine captivates with its exceptionally clear, slightly greenish-blue color, which shifts in a fascinating way depending on the viewing angle. Its subtle pleochroism causes the stone to shift between a fresh greenish-blue and a clear light blue, giving it a vibrant, almost ethereal aura.
The excellently executed cushion cut harmoniously accentuates this natural play of colors. Thanks to its precise faceting, the aquamarine radiates a vibrant brilliance and reveals its exceptional transparency anew with every movement. The very slight natural inclusions are only subtly visible and do not detract from the outstanding overall impression of this special gemstone.
Another aquamarine weighing 1.03 ct, also in a cushion cut, was crafted from the same rough crystal. Both gemstones are linked by their shared origin, yet each possesses its own character and unique radiance due to the individual orientation of the crystal.
This aquamarine combines the beauty of an extraordinary natural crystal with masterful craftsmanship and a documented provenance. It is one of the most striking pieces in the Bennad Collection and tells the story of a gemstone whose natural elegance was forged over millions of years and is now revealed in all its beauty.
The origin of this gemstone: Rough crystal: 16.47 ct
The following were cut from this rough crystal:
• Cushion-cut aquamarine, AQ14/1 – 1.87 ct
• Cushion-cut aquamarine, AQ14/2 – 1.03 ct
Total yield: 2.90 ct – 17.6% of the rough weight
Why is the yield so low?
When cutting a gemstone, the focus is not on achieving the highest possible final weight, but on achieving the best possible combination of color, clarity, brilliance, and proportions. A large portion of the original crystal is intentionally removed to bring out the gemstone’s natural beauty to the fullest.
The aquamarine comes from southern Africa. The rough stone was sourced for us directly from the source by our partners, inspected by us, and then expertly cut.
(*)To the best of our knowledge and according to information from our local partners, the gemstone is untreated.
For an additional fee, we'd be happy to arrange for a certificate from an independent gemological institute to be issued for this gemstone.
Images may vary depending on monitor settings. The videos of the stone were recorded without filters or color correction.
The true beauty of a gemstone is only revealed when you hold it in your hand. With every slight movement, the angle of the light, the reflections, and the play of colors change, giving each stone its own unique vibrancy.
Interesting Facts About Aquamarine
Aquamarine is the blue to bluish-green variety of the mineral beryl. Its color spectrum ranges from a very delicate, pale blue to intense, deep blue hues. Aquamarines with a rich, pure blue color are often referred to in the trade as “Santa Maria aquamarines” and are among the most sought-after examples of this gemstone.
Natural inclusions are characteristic features of a natural gemstone. They can provide clues about its natural origin and help distinguish it from synthetic or imitation materials. At the same time, clarity - along with color, cut, and carat weight - is one of the key factors that determine a gemstone’s quality and value.
High-quality aquamarines also attract the attention of collectors and buyers who view rare colored gemstones as long-term assets. Stones with an intense blue color, high transparency, very good clarity, and an excellent cut are in particularly high demand. Exceptional specimens of this quality are available in limited quantities and have attracted increasing market attention in recent years. However, future performance cannot be predicted and always depends on quality, rarity, and demand.
