Iolite

This beautiful, natural, and untreated iolite, weighing 1.75 ct, was carved from a 6.71 ct rough crystal. Its intense violet-blue color is accented by lighter lilac reflections and takes on an unusually three-dimensional character thanks to a very special cutting effect.

The iolite is eye-clean and very transparent. Its optical structure is particularly fascinating: The center appears almost transparent and open, while the intense violet-blue color is more concentrated toward the edges. This creates the impression of a bright, clear interior surrounded by a luminous violet-blue frame.

When the piece is moved, bright lilac-colored reflections also become visible. They travel across the facets, constantly reshaping the relationship between the seemingly transparent center and the more intensely colored outer areas. This contrast gives the stone remarkable depth and makes its color appear exceptionally vibrant.

It is precisely this effect that has been beautifully accentuated by the octagon cut. The clear geometric shape and the characteristically beveled corners form a precise frame for the optically bright center. 

At the same time, the outer facets capture the intense violet-blue hue and, when the light hits them just right, make the edges literally glow. Its high transparency and flawless clarity further enhance this effect. Instead of a uniformly dark color effect across the entire surface, an exciting interplay of transparency, color depth, and light emerges – light and open in the center, a rich violet-blue toward the edges, and repeatedly interspersed with delicate lilac reflections.

This gives this 1.75-carat iolite a character all its own. It is not only the beautiful violet-blue color that makes it interesting, but above all the unique way light plays off its cut: a center that appears almost crystal-clear, surrounded by edges that glow with an intense violet-blue. It is precisely this unusual spatial effect that makes it an iolite that you can rediscover again and again from different angles.
