This beautiful, natural, and untreated iolite weighing 0.55 ct was cut from the same 6.30 ct rough crystal. Its sister stone is the 0.72 ct baguette-cut iolite. While the latter makes an impression with its linear shape, the smaller pear-cut stone has a softer, exceptionally elegant appearance.

Its color is defined by a clear, deep violet-blue. Particularly beautiful are the light purple reflections that dance across the stone depending on the angle of the light, creating a striking contrast to the deeper base color. This gives the iolite an astonishing vibrancy and makes it appear very striking despite its small size.

The stone is eye-clean and possesses a beautiful transparency. Light can pass unimpeded through the crystal, repeatedly bringing out brighter violet and lilac areas. This clear play of light lends the color additional depth without detracting from its delicate, elegant appearance.

The precisely executed pear cut complements this color character perfectly. Its softly rounded base and elegantly tapering tip give the iolite a graceful silhouette, while the facets reveal the violet-blue hue - and especially the light lilac reflections - anew with every movement.

Especially with a smaller gemstone, it is particularly captivating when color and light create such a striking effect. This iolite combines eye-clean clarity, a rich violet-blue hue, and bright lilac-colored light reflections into a delicate yet expressive composition.

Together with its 0.72 ct sister stone in a baguette cut, it beautifully illustrates how differently the same iolite crystal can appear when cut into two different shapes. The pear cut gives this stone a particularly light and elegant look.

The Iolite originates from southern Africa. The rough stone was sourced for us directly from the source through our partners, inspected by us, and then expertly cut.

(*)To the best of our knowledge and according to information from our local partners, the gemstone is untreated.

For an additional fee, we’d be happy to arrange for a certificate from an independent gemological institute to be issued for this gemstone.

Images may vary depending on monitor settings. The videos of the stone were recorded without filters or color correction.

The true beauty of a gemstone is only revealed when you hold it in your hand. With every slight movement, the angle of the light, the reflections, and the play of colors change, giving each stone its own unique vibrancy.

Interesting Facts About Iolite

Iolite is the blue to violet-blue gemstone variety of the mineral cordierite. Its color spectrum ranges from light gray-blue through clear blue-violet to deep, intense violet-blue tones. It is characterized by its pronounced pleochroism: depending on the viewing angle, iolite can display different colors, including blue, violet, gray-blue, or slightly yellowish-gray hues. A precise cut is therefore particularly important to bring out the most beautiful color tone to its fullest potential.

Natural inclusions are characteristic features of a natural gemstone. They can provide clues about its natural origin and help distinguish it from synthetic or imitation materials. At the same time, clarity - along with color, cut, and carat weight - is one of the key factors that determine a gemstone’s quality and value.

Transparent iolites with a rich, uniform violet-blue color, high clarity, and vibrant brilliance are particularly prized. High-quality, larger specimens are relatively rare and attract particular attention from collectors and enthusiasts of unusual colored gemstones. The quality and value of an iolite depend primarily on its color, transparency, clarity, cut, and carat weight. However, future performance cannot be predicted and is always determined by quality, rarity, and demand.
