This small but exceptionally vivid natural and untreated tourmaline, weighing 0.23 ct, was crafted from a 2.33 ct rough crystal. Despite its modest weight, it possesses a remarkably strong visual presence and captivates with a luminous play of colors ranging from blue to green.
Its color effect is distinctly lagoon-like: depending on the angle of light and the viewing angle, cooler blue, blue-green, and fresh green hues stand out to varying degrees. Especially with this small stone, the color appears surprisingly concentrated and intense, making it seem much more striking than its weight would initially suggest.
The tourmaline is eye-clean and exhibits clear transparency. This allows light to pass effectively through the crystal, beautifully highlighting the intense shades of blue and green. The vibrant interplay of color and light gives it a fresh, almost tropical aura.
The superbly executed octagon cut combines a clean geometric shape with precisely set facets and characteristically beveled corners. Careful cutting is crucial, especially for a gemstone of this size: it enhances the intense color and gives this small tourmaline a clear, elegant, and remarkably expressive presence.
From its documented origin as a 2.33-carat rough crystal to the finished gemstone, this tourmaline exemplifies meticulous cutting planning, precise craftsmanship, and the authentic individuality of a naturally colored gemstone. Its intense, lagoon-like play of color between blue and green, its eye-clean clarity, and the remarkably strong color impact for its size make it a small but exceptionally distinctive piece in the Bennad Collection.
The Green-blue Tourmaline originates from southern Africa. The rough stone was sourced for us directly from the source through our partners, inspected by us, and then expertly cut.
(*)To the best of our knowledge and according to information from our local partners, the gemstone is untreated.
For an additional fee, we’d be happy to arrange for a certificate from an independent gemological institute to be issued for this gemstone.
Images may vary depending on monitor settings. The videos of the stone were recorded without filters or color correction.
The true beauty of a gemstone is only revealed when you hold it in your hand. With every slight movement, the angle of the light, the reflections, and the play of colors change, giving each stone its own unique vibrancy.
Interesting Facts About Lagoon Tourmaline
Lagoon tourmalines captivate with their vibrant play of colors between blue and green, reminiscent of the clear hues of tropical lagoons. Their color spectrum ranges from light aqua blue and turquoise to intense teal and luminous blue-green. Stones with a clear, open color, high transparency, and pronounced luminosity are particularly prized.
The term “Lagoon” is a trade name for blue-green or green-blue tourmalines and primarily describes their characteristic color appearance. Depending on the angle of the light, individual shades may stand out more prominently, giving the gemstone a vibrant, ever-changing appearance. A precise cut further accentuates this play of color and impressively highlights the tourmaline’s natural brilliance.
With their fresh, elegant color, Lagoon tourmalines are among the most striking members of the tourmaline family and are ideal for both exclusive jewelry and discerning gemstone collections.
