This natural, untreated emerald, weighing 0.30 ct, was cut from a rough crystal weighing 0.95 ct. Despite its small size, it displays a strikingly beautiful emerald blue-green color that appears fresh, vibrant, and clear - typical of emeralds.

Inside, natural growth features characteristic of emeralds are visible. They lend the small stone structure and depth and make its natural origin immediately recognizable. The color remains clearly in the foreground.

The precisely executed cushion cut suits this stone very well. Its softly rounded shape gives the intense blue-green color ample room to shine, while the facets create bright green reflections when the stone is moved. This makes the emerald appear vibrant and, given its light weight, surprisingly striking.

Particularly noteworthy is its untreated condition. The color and internal structure have not been altered by any post-treatment, so the stone fully retains its natural character.

Emerald is the intensely green to blue-green gemstone variety of the mineral beryl. Its characteristic color is primarily due to chromium and/or vanadium, while iron can also influence the hue. Emeralds with a rich, balanced green color, good transparency, and a vibrant internal color effect are particularly prized.

n so-called chromium and vanadium emeralds, the difference lies primarily in the trace elements responsible for the green color. Chromium is the classic color-giving element in many traditional emeralds, while in other deposits, vanadium can play a significant or even dominant role in color formation. Both can produce very high-quality emeralds. A definitive distinction cannot be made based solely on the appearance of the color; it requires gemmological or spectroscopic analysis. Therefore, what determines the quality is not whether chromium or vanadium predominates, but how beautifully the color, saturation, transparency, and play of light of the individual stone interact.

Natural growth features and inclusions are particularly characteristic of emeralds and are often perceived as part of their individual “jardins.” At the same time, transparency and clarity significantly influence their value. Since many emeralds are treated with oil or other substances to enhance their appearance, unoiled or untreated emeralds with attractive natural color are particularly sought after.
