Emerald

This natural, untreated emerald, weighing 1.67 ct, was cut from a rough crystal weighing 16.29 ct. It originated from the same original crystal as a 1.86 ct octagon-cut sister stone. Its exceptionally beautiful emerald blue-green color appears fresh, open, and intense all at once.

Internally, the stone displays the growth characteristics typical of natural emeralds, as well as visible black inclusions. These structures are clearly part of its unique appearance and attest to its natural formation. Despite its clearly visible internal structure, the color remains very prominent and gives the stone a vibrant, three-dimensional effect.

The comparatively open transparency of this emerald is particularly beautiful. Light penetrates the crystal well, causing different blue-green areas to appear lighter or darker depending on the angle of the light. This gives the stone a lively appearance and a beautiful inner depth without concealing its natural structures.

The cushion cut enhances this character particularly well. Its softly rounded contours give the stone a harmonious shape and allow its blue-green color to shine through beautifully. At the same time, the stone’s natural internal structure remains visible, lending the emerald additional individuality.

Of particular note is its untreated condition. The color, transparency, and internal characteristics have not been altered by any post-extraction treatment. The stone is therefore presented in its natural form - with its beautiful color and visible traces of its growth.

Together with its 1.86-carat octagon-cut sister stone, this emerald reveals two different sides of the same rough crystal. While the Octagon stone appears darker, deeper, and more geometric, this 1.67-ct Kiss stone seems more open, softer, and more vibrant. It is precisely this open, blue-green color effect that gives it its special charm.

Emerald is the intensely green to blue-green gemstone variety of the mineral beryl. Its characteristic color is primarily due to chromium and/or vanadium, while iron can also influence the hue. Emeralds with a rich, balanced green color, good transparency, and a vibrant internal color effect are particularly prized.

n so-called chromium and vanadium emeralds, the difference lies primarily in the trace elements responsible for the green color. Chromium is the classic color-giving element in many traditional emeralds, while in other deposits, vanadium can play a significant or even dominant role in color formation. Both can produce very high-quality emeralds. A definitive distinction cannot be made based solely on the appearance of the color; it requires gemmological or spectroscopic analysis. Therefore, what determines the quality is not whether chromium or vanadium predominates, but how beautifully the color, saturation, transparency, and play of light of the individual stone interact.

Natural growth features and inclusions are particularly characteristic of emeralds and are often perceived as part of their individual “jardins.” At the same time, transparency and clarity significantly influence their value. Since many emeralds are treated with oil or other substances to enhance their appearance, unoiled or untreated emeralds with attractive natural color are particularly sought after.
