This exquisite natural and untreated iolite, weighing 0.27 ct, was cut from the same 10.09 ct rough crystal. Together with its two larger sister stones - weighing 1.35 ct and 1.55 ct, also oval-cut - it retains the characteristic violet-blue color palette of the original crystal.

Its color displays the same beautiful interplay of deep violet-blue and lighter lilac reflections as seen in the two sister stones. Given its small size, this play of color appears particularly concentrated and clear.

The iolite is eye-clean and beautifully transparent. This allows light to pass through the crystal unimpeded, highlighting the lighter purple reflections with exceptional finesse. Its high clarity gives the small stone a surprisingly open and elegant appearance.

The superbly executed oval cut gives the iolite a balanced, harmonious shape and enhances its clear color. The precise faceting effectively highlights the deep violet-blue and the lighter lilac reflections, lending the stone a beautiful vibrancy despite its light weight.

Among the three sister stones, this 0.27-ct iolite appears particularly delicate and clear. While the 1.55-ct stone is more defined by its natural internal structures and the 1.35-ct stone stands out for its intense color and play of light, this small stone impresses above all with its transparency, eye-clean clarity, and a very pure violet-blue color.

Together, the three oval-cut stones beautifully illustrate just how differently a single iolite crystal can manifest itself. This small sister stone represents the clear, light side of the group - delicate, transparent, yet still distinctly present in color.

The Iolite originates from southern Africa. The rough stone was sourced for us directly from the source through our partners, inspected by us, and then expertly cut.

(*)To the best of our knowledge and according to information from our local partners, the gemstone is untreated.

For an additional fee, we’d be happy to arrange for a certificate from an independent gemological institute to be issued for this gemstone.

Images may vary depending on monitor settings. The videos of the stone were recorded without filters or color correction.

The true beauty of a gemstone is only revealed when you hold it in your hand. With every slight movement, the angle of the light, the reflections, and the play of colors change, giving each stone its own unique vibrancy.

Interesting Facts About Iolite

Iolite is the blue to violet-blue gemstone variety of the mineral cordierite. Its color spectrum ranges from light gray-blue through clear blue-violet to deep, intense violet-blue tones. It is characterized by its pronounced pleochroism: depending on the viewing angle, iolite can display different colors, including blue, violet, gray-blue, or slightly yellowish-gray hues. A precise cut is therefore particularly important to bring out the most beautiful color tone to its fullest potential.

Natural inclusions are characteristic features of a natural gemstone. They can provide clues about its natural origin and help distinguish it from synthetic or imitation materials. At the same time, clarity - along with color, cut, and carat weight - is one of the key factors that determine a gemstone’s quality and value.

Transparent iolites with a rich, uniform violet-blue color, high clarity, and vibrant brilliance are particularly prized. High-quality, larger specimens are relatively rare and attract particular attention from collectors and enthusiasts of unusual colored gemstones. The quality and value of an iolite depend primarily on its color, transparency, clarity, cut, and carat weight. However, future performance cannot be predicted and is always determined by quality, rarity, and demand.
