This beautiful, natural, and untreated iolite, weighing 1.35 ct, was cut from a rough crystal weighing 10.09 ct. Its deep, intensely vivid violet-blue hue is interspersed with lighter lilac reflections, which give the stone a particularly vibrant and elegant appearance.
The iolite is eye-clean and possesses a clear transparency that allows its vibrant color to shine through particularly impressively. The rich violet-blue hue creates the dominant color impression, while, with movement, bright lilac reflections constantly dance across individual facets. This creates a fascinating interplay between deep color saturation and luminous accents.
The lively play of light in this stone is particularly beautiful. The precise faceting effectively captures the incoming light, causing brighter violet and lilac areas to repeatedly emerge within the rich violet-blue hue. As a result, the intense color gains additional spatial depth while appearing both clear and luminous.
The superbly executed oval cut gives the iolite a harmonious, balanced silhouette. Its facets are designed to effectively highlight both the high color saturation and the brighter reflections. The soft shape provides an elegant frame for the intense violet-blue color.
Two additional sister stones, also oval-cut, were crafted from the same 10.09-carat rough crystal: a 1.55-carat iolite and a delicate 0.27-carat iolite. With its flawless clarity, deep violet-blue color, and bright lilac highlights, this 1.35-ct iolite has a distinctly elegant presence.
The Iolite originates from southern Africa. The rough stone was sourced for us directly from the source through our partners, inspected by us, and then expertly cut.
(*)To the best of our knowledge and according to information from our local partners, the gemstone is untreated.
For an additional fee, we’d be happy to arrange for a certificate from an independent gemological institute to be issued for this gemstone.
Images may vary depending on monitor settings. The videos of the stone were recorded without filters or color correction.
The true beauty of a gemstone is only revealed when you hold it in your hand. With every slight movement, the angle of the light, the reflections, and the play of colors change, giving each stone its own unique vibrancy.
Interesting Facts About Iolite
Iolite is the blue to violet-blue gemstone variety of the mineral cordierite. Its color spectrum ranges from light gray-blue through clear blue-violet to deep, intense violet-blue tones. It is characterized by its pronounced pleochroism: depending on the viewing angle, iolite can display different colors, including blue, violet, gray-blue, or slightly yellowish-gray hues. A precise cut is therefore particularly important to bring out the most beautiful color tone to its fullest potential.
Natural inclusions are characteristic features of a natural gemstone. They can provide clues about its natural origin and help distinguish it from synthetic or imitation materials. At the same time, clarity - along with color, cut, and carat weight - is one of the key factors that determine a gemstone’s quality and value.
Transparent iolites with a rich, uniform violet-blue color, high clarity, and vibrant brilliance are particularly prized. High-quality, larger specimens are relatively rare and attract particular attention from collectors and enthusiasts of unusual colored gemstones. The quality and value of an iolite depend primarily on its color, transparency, clarity, cut, and carat weight. However, future performance cannot be predicted and is always determined by quality, rarity, and demand.
