With its slightly ice-blue hue, high transparency, and delicate light-blue to glass-like reflections, this natural and untreated 1.71 ct aquamarine possesses a clear, elegant, and very harmonious appearance.
Cut from the same 11.47 ct rough crystal as its sister stone, AQ18/1, this pear-cut gem exhibits very slight natural characteristics and appears virtually eye-clean under normal viewing conditions. Its brilliance is slightly more subdued than that of its smaller counterpart, yet it produces a beautiful, lively play of light when moved.
Its slightly more pronounced color effect is particularly appealing. Depending on the viewing angle, the aquamarine displays a subtle pleochroic effect with shifting nuances ranging from a delicate ice blue to slightly more intense blue reflections. In some areas, this creates light-filled sections that appear almost glass-like, lending the stone additional depth.
The pear cut beautifully enhances this calm, elegant effect. Its elongated shape combines the clear color with soft lines and a balanced distribution of light, giving the stone a very striking yet refined appearance despite its rather subdued brilliance.
The same rough crystal was also used to create the 1.17 ct oval-cut AQ18/1. While this one stands out for its exceptionally strong brilliance and numerous bright reflections, the larger pear cut displays a slightly deeper ice-blue color and a more subdued, elegant play of light.
An elegant aquamarine with a delicate ice-blue hue, high transparency, and very subtle natural characteristics - marked by a subtle pleochroic color effect and light blue to almost glass-like reflections.
The Origin of this gemstone: Rough crystal: 11.47 ct
Cut from this rough crystal:
• Oval aquamarine, AQ18/1 – 1.17 ct
• Pear-shaped aquamarine, AQ18/2 – 1.71 ct
Total yield: 2.88 ct – 25.1% of the rough weight
Why is the yield so low?
When cutting a gemstone, the focus is not on achieving the highest possible final weight, but on achieving the best possible combination of color, clarity, brilliance, and proportions. A large portion of the original crystal is intentionally removed to bring out the gemstone’s natural beauty to the fullest.
The aquamarine comes from southern Africa. The rough stone was sourced for us directly from the source by our partners, inspected by us, and then expertly cut.
(*)To the best of our knowledge and according to information from our local partners, the gemstone is untreated.
For an additional fee, we'd be happy to arrange for a certificate from an independent gemological institute to be issued for this gemstone.
Images may vary depending on monitor settings. The videos of the stone were recorded without filters or color correction.
The true beauty of a gemstone is only revealed when you hold it in your hand. With every slight movement, the angle of the light, the reflections, and the play of colors change, giving each stone its own unique vibrancy.
Interesting Facts About Aquamarine
Aquamarine is the blue to bluish-green variety of the mineral beryl. Its color spectrum ranges from a very delicate, pale blue to intense, deep blue hues. Aquamarines with a rich, pure blue color are often referred to in the trade as “Santa Maria aquamarines” and are among the most sought-after examples of this gemstone.
Natural inclusions are characteristic features of a natural gemstone. They can provide clues about its natural origin and help distinguish it from synthetic or imitation materials. At the same time, clarity - along with color, cut, and carat weight - is one of the key factors that determine a gemstone’s quality and value.
High-quality aquamarines also attract the attention of collectors and buyers who view rare colored gemstones as long-term assets. Stones with an intense blue color, high transparency, very good clarity, and an excellent cut are in particularly high demand. Exceptional specimens of this quality are available in limited quantities and have attracted increasing market attention in recent years. However, future performance cannot be predicted and always depends on quality, rarity, and demand.
