This exquisite natural and untreated iolite, weighing 0.47 ct, was crafted from a 4.30 ct rough crystal. Its particular strength lies in a clear, fresh play of colors ranging from blue to violet-blue, which gives this small stone a surprisingly vibrant presence.

The iolite is eye-clean and very transparent. It is precisely this high clarity that makes the color appear open and light and allows light to penetrate deep into the crystal. Depending on the angle of the light, the appearance shifts between a lighter blue and more intense violet-blue hues.

Its striking brilliance is particularly beautiful. When the stone is moved, bright reflections dance across the facets, creating a charming contrast to the cooler blue-violet base color. Despite its light weight, this gives the stone a distinctly lively appearance and a much stronger visual presence than its size would initially suggest.

The precisely executed octagon cut gives the iolite a clean, geometric shape with its characteristic beveled corners. The faceting enhances both its high transparency and its vibrant play of light, allowing the interplay of colors between blue and violet-blue to stand out with exceptional clarity.

In this small iolite in particular, transparency, color, and brilliance complement each other particularly harmoniously. It is not so much its size as the clarity of its appearance that sets it apart: cool blue from some angles, deep violet-blue from others, and consistently interspersed with bright reflections of light.

From the 4.30-carat rough crystal, a small, very clear iolite was thus created, whose precise geometry and vibrant play of light beautifully highlight its intense blue-violet color palette.

The Iolite originates from southern Africa. The rough stone was sourced for us directly from the source through our partners, inspected by us, and then expertly cut.

(*)To the best of our knowledge and according to information from our local partners, the gemstone is untreated.

For an additional fee, we’d be happy to arrange for a certificate from an independent gemological institute to be issued for this gemstone.

Images may vary depending on monitor settings. The videos of the stone were recorded without filters or color correction.

The true beauty of a gemstone is only revealed when you hold it in your hand. With every slight movement, the angle of the light, the reflections, and the play of colors change, giving each stone its own unique vibrancy.

Interesting Facts About Iolite

Iolite is the blue to violet-blue gemstone variety of the mineral cordierite. Its color spectrum ranges from light gray-blue through clear blue-violet to deep, intense violet-blue tones. It is characterized by its pronounced pleochroism: depending on the viewing angle, iolite can display different colors, including blue, violet, gray-blue, or slightly yellowish-gray hues. A precise cut is therefore particularly important to bring out the most beautiful color tone to its fullest potential.

Natural inclusions are characteristic features of a natural gemstone. They can provide clues about its natural origin and help distinguish it from synthetic or imitation materials. At the same time, clarity - along with color, cut, and carat weight - is one of the key factors that determine a gemstone’s quality and value.

Transparent iolites with a rich, uniform violet-blue color, high clarity, and vibrant brilliance are particularly prized. High-quality, larger specimens are relatively rare and attract particular attention from collectors and enthusiasts of unusual colored gemstones. The quality and value of an iolite depend primarily on its color, transparency, clarity, cut, and carat weight. However, future performance cannot be predicted and is always determined by quality, rarity, and demand.
